I know 1680x1050 works on the monitor because Windows XP has no issues. I don't have the screen shift problem at the following resolution (some do have a compression problem but that's merely due to forcing a regular screen size onto a wide screen format). My laptop is just 4 months old and i never dropped it or made any point of impact at the screen. Also, not only is the desktop skews to the left but it's also compressed badly to the left. My screen seems to be shifted down and a little to the right, the black bar is the problem, I can also feel the end of the actual lcd since theres like a fault line, i could say, when i touch the upper part of the black bar. The weird thing is I only have this issue at the native resolution of 1680x1050. I fixed my screens positions by doing this. Moving the screen left and right couldn't move the desktop far enough because to the monitor, the screen was perfectly centered. I keep getting the no precompile kernel error. You will then need to either use the 'auto' option or else click the left/right arrow buttons (usually either side of the menu button on your monitor) to adjust the menu and then the position. In recent times, however, the conversation has shifted from which is the outright superior technology to which equipment is best suited to your needs. To do so, open the Action Center by clicking the notification icon at the right side of your taskbar, or by pressing Windows+A. Well, I finally got into init 3 by logging out of gnome first followed by ctr-alt-f2.
